Graduation Ceremony 2021 held for 1,400 students from FLASS
EdUHK was filled with smiles, hugs and laughter during the two-day graduation ceremony held by the Faculty of the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (FLASS) to celebrate the achievements of nearly 1,400 graduates. The ceremony involved four in-person, on-campus sessions held on 27 November and 18 December for the graduates of our undergraduate programmes and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). It also featured a pre-recorded video which was released to the graduates of our taught master’s degree programmes on 17 November 2021.
A total of 1,395 students graduated from 32 programmes offered by FLASS, including eight TPG, two PGDE and 22 bachelor’s degree programmes, in the academic year of 2020/21. Fourteen students from FLASS were named on the President’s Honour List in recognition of their extraordinary academic achievements attained during their studies. Around 760 students attended the in-person, on-campus ceremony sessions.
Professor Li Wai-keung, Dean of FLASS, presided over the four in-person ceremony sessions. Extending his warmest congratulations to all graduates of FLASS, he said in his graduation speech: “Graduation marks the end of your studies. It also represents the beginning of a new chapter in your life. While some of you may have opted for further studies, many of you may start work in society. But no matter which route you have decided upon, the knowledge, skills and experience you have gained at the University will remain with you always, as a compass to guide you through your journey.”
The ceremony officially marked the completion of the FLASS graduates' studies following years of hard work at EdUHK. Even after the graduates stepped out of the ceremony venue, the celebration continued as they chatted excitedly and took photos with their classmates, teachers and family members. President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung came to meet FLASS graduates after the official ceremony finished too. He took photos with the graduates and spoke warmly with them, as well as their family and friends. The President hoped that graduates would face challenges ahead while maximizing the use of the knowledge they learnt here to contribute to society. He encouraged the graduates who have decided to devote themselves to education to make themselves role models for their students.
The weather was appropriately sunny on both days of the graduation ceremony, shining upon our smiling and laughing graduates everywhere on the campus. It was a truly joyful time as graduates hugged one another and threw their graduation caps in the air, expressing heartfelt thanks to all their professors. The unforgettable moment symbolised the end of an important chapter of learning at EdUHK for these graduates.
Professor Li said that while their studies at EdUHK may have come to an end, the memories of studying here will last a lifetime, and the graduates’ ties with FLASS and EdUHK will remain as robust as ever. “Graduates might face new challenges in their journey ahead, but FLASS and EdUHK will continue to be their support system for many years to come,” he said.
